The annual Rubber Duck Race in Fairbanks, Alaska involves dumping more than 5,000 rubber duckies into the river. At the end of the race, the ducks are funneled together using oil booms and scooped up with fishing nets.

TOO. FRIGGIN" CUTE!!! I love rubber duckies!!! I wish they had more of these events around the world...that, and Rubber Duck-zilla, the biggest rubber duck that floats in the oceans of asia annually.

Wow, so ALL those people who entered the race were just too lazy to retrieve their ducks from the water? I mean sure, several were probably too hard to retrieve, but it looks like all of these were pretty close to shore.

The ducks are supplied by the city, so they have some designated people to scoop them up and store them for next year's race.

Many places in north america do this. In fact, most towns in Canada do it, and I suppose Alaska is so closely tied to Canada in terms of culture, they do it to :)

Not where I've lived! Guess only the northern states do.. plus, I come from the desert, so that doesn't help, lol nothing really festive or fun at the towns I've lived at!
